Our Technology

Passion and Dedication to the Sport

Answer Products was founded over 20 years ago with the goal of producing the most technically advanced products imaginable. Through decades of extensive R&D testing and competition at both World and National levels, we've proven to be the most innovative suspension company in the industry. The fruit of our efforts make up the cutting edge technologies used in our line today.
SPV (Stable Platform Valve) Evolve Damping

Featured on Dorado, Sherman, Nixon, Minute, and Skareb forks

SPV Evolve is a refinement of the revolutionary Stable Platform Valve damping system, allowing our 2005 forks to be more responsive to smaller impacts and have an increased setup pressure range, all while delivering platform for improved climbing efficiency and more controlled cornering.

SPV Evolve differs from SPV in three key ways:
1. Teflon piston rings rather than standard "O" rings in the SPV assembly to help the damper initiate more easily.

2. A small bleed-by circuit which further helps the suspension initiate more quickly off of the platform.

3. An adjusted pressure range effect. 35psi is still the minimum SPV pressure you should run in your forks, but SPV Evolve's 35psi yields less platform (more plushness) than standard SPV's 35psi. This way you can set up your fork with as much or as little platform as you prefer.

Where lesser systems suffer compression spikes or harsh transitions from a locked out to an open state, SPV, and SPV Evolve is the only damping system that improves your bike’s handling characteristics while climbing and descending.
SPV (Stable Platform Valve) Damping

Featured on Swinger shocks

SPV features include externally adjustable pedaling platform, adjustable damping progressiveness, and a unique stabilizing valve for enhanced bump control. SPV eliminates unwanted suspension movement and improves a bike's bump eating performance by eliminating compression spikes.

With SPV, you can pre-set your bike's pedaling efficiency easily and quickly with a standard air pump. This is the most sophisticated damping system ever developed.

Infinite Travel (IT) Adjust

Featured on Nixon, Minute, Skareb, and Black forks

IT is our lightest-ever air spring travel adjust system, allowing the fork to be set anywhere in it’s travel range via a handlebar-mounted lever with no spring rate change.

TPC + Position Activated Damping

Featured on Dorado DH and Stance Kingpin

TPC + Position Activated Damping starts with the two independent rebound and compression damping pistons used in our TPC damping system and adds a third piston to automatically change damping to according to the fork’s position in its travel. This position activated damping provides initial low-resistance for small bump sensitivity and adds more damping through the progression of the fork’s stroke to resist bottoming. Additionally, we use a low pressure, high volume system to eliminate cavitation (which leads to compression spikes and stiffening) and heat-related problems.

TPC (Twin Piston Chamber) Damping

Featured on Sherman, Nixon, Skareb, Black, Splice, and Axel models.

TPC (Twin Piston Chamber) Damping now comes with standard lockout, Remote Lockout (RLO) or in compression adjustment versions (depending on application). TPC uses twin independent damping pistons: one optimized for rebound, the other for compression/lockout. Additionally, we use a low pressure, high volume system to eliminate cavitation (which leads to compression spikes and stiffening) and heat-related problems. Quick Range TPC allows minimum to maximum damping adjustment in a half-turn of the knob, and our compression lock out switch eliminates unwanted bobbing during climbing and smooth terrain use.

Semi-Bath Lubrication and Evil Genius

Featured on Dorado, Sherman, Stance, Nixon, Minute, Skareb and Black models.

Semi-Bath Lubrication and Evil Genius Seals dramatically increase our forks’ durability and service life. This system decreases stiction by retaining lubricants inside the fork and lubricating from the inside. High quality Evil Genius seals were developed in conjunction with a prominent motorcycle suspension seal company.

Fluid Flow Damping (FFD)

Featured on Skareb, Splice, and Axel models.

Fluid Flow Damping (FFD) is a TPC-derived hydraulic damping system featuring compression and rebound damping pistons. We use a low pressure, high volume system to eliminate cavitation (which leads to compression spikes and stiffening) and heat-related problems. Many of the models utilizing FFD have externally adjustable rebound.

RA (Reverse Arch) Castings

Featured on All Manitou forks except Dorado.

RA (Reverse Arch) Castings are featured on all Manitou forks with castings because they provide the greatest amount of torsional stiffness possible for a given weight. Patented Reverse Arch technology allows us to increase arch wrap mass in key areas and also allows for an arch that is shorter and stiffer than traditional designs. Each new casting has an optimized arch size, cross section and shape for maximum stiffness and dramatically improved steering accuracy.

In their current catalog, one of our competitors lambasts the Reverse Arch, oversimplifying the "physics" of the design to proove their point. This is the same company who needlessly incorperates a company logo into their arch. The fact is that extensive testing in-house as well as through independent parties has shown that RA castings yield forks with the highest stiffness to weight ratio possible. We think our competitors have been partying too much to take a look at this data.

Onepointfive Interface Standard

Featured on Sherman, Breakout and Breakout Plus.

Onepointfive interface standard specifies an increased headset, cup, stem, and steerer tube diameter for improved strength, steering precision and durability. Specific for extreme “freeride” applications, with onepointfive technology designs are possible that are 44% stronger and 138% stiffer than forks at a similar weight using a traditional 1 1/8” steerer. The onepointfive system allows for the existence of our new Sherman Breakout Plus, a lightweight (5.5lb) single crown fork with 170mm of travel that is the ultimate fork for hardcore and extreme riding.

Keep in mind that every high performance Manitou fork is designed around the key perameters of maximum stiffness, minimal weight, and a low ride height. Ignoring these design elements, we could make a 170mm (or even bigger) singlecrown fork with a 1 1/8" steerer, but this requires a lot of additional weight to get even close to the stiffness of what we can do with onepointfive.

Rapid Travel Wind Down (RTWD)

Featured on Nixon, Stance, Minute, Black, Splice, and Axel forks.

Rapid Travel Wind Down (RTWD) is a top-mounted travel adjust feature that allows the rider to externally change the fork’s travel without a spring rate change. Our all-new travel indicator improves functionality over current systems and eliminates the need for busy text on fork stanchions. RTWD has a total range of 30mm of travel adjustment for each fork model and travel can be set at any point within that 30mm.

Rapid Travel II

Featured on Manitou Sherman models.

Rapid Travel II is a top-mounted travel adjust feature that allows Sherman riders to change their fork’s travel at the flip of a switch. This travel adjust option lowers the bike’s front end by 40mm and stiffens fork to improve climbing. Once at the top, flip the lever back for great descending at full travel.

Convertible Travel

Featured on South, Six, and Luxe models.

Convertible Travel is an internal travel change that can be done in the shop to set a fork at either different travels (depending on the fork). All of the parts for this travel change are included in the fork.

Hex-Lock Thru Axle

Featured on Dorado, Sherman, Stance, and Nixon models.

Hex-Lock Thru Axle is a Manitou exclusive featured on our longer travel fork models where agressive riding demands stiffness. Our proprietary hex axle locks lower legs in place for unsurpassed stiffness. Compatible with standard 20mm hubs and parts, the Sherman’s Hex-lock fork dropouts use replaceable screw inserts to eliminate the possibility of a damaged casting via over-torqued pinch bolts.

Microlube

Featured on Six and South model forks.

Microlube is a time tested and convenient lubrication method whereby grease (Motorex Prep M is recommended for optimal performance) is injected into the casting via external ports. For this maintenance procedure there is no disassembly required, and the ports are compatible with standard grease gun applicators.

Handlebar Mounted Remote Lockout

Featured on Skareb, Black

Our all-new remote lockout features unique push lever actuation with single movement release. Compatible with all TPC lockout systems, aftermarket upgrade assemblies include the lever, cable, and damper. Available for right or left hand mounting.
